Tasting Notes

2006 St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon - This is a very powerful and fruit forward Cabernet Sauvignon.  It shoes off ripe currants, black raspberry and dark cherry.  It has a lovely smoky character that mingles with a meaty note and a dried herb component.  All of these facets make up a very complex and divers aroma profile.  In the mouth these same flavors become more lush and supple.  It has soft tannins for such a big Cabernet, but they carry through to the finish well, making it an approachable wine.  The acid profile is balanced, giving length and age-ability while helping the wine to be focused and food friendly.

2006 St. Helena Petite Sirah - I love this wine. It is rich and concentrated. The aromas are centered around violets, dark chocolate, cherry cola, cream and black cherry.  There are smokey meaty notes as well that increase the diversity.  It is lush and luxurious in the mouth.  There is a slight sweetness from the oak and a fat viscosity that makes this wine very appealing. The tannins are present, but full, round and supple.  This wine is a pleasure to drink!

These wines will be available in the next release.

Our History
The original scissor press and redwood tanks are still located on the top floor of the winery, built in 1885, utilizing gravity and hand pumps to move the grapes and wine. Joseph Varozza sold wines locally and in San Francisco under the JA Varozza label.

New Vintage
The 2004 and 2005 wines are now going to be available to ship. There are less than two hundred cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah for each vintage. Read more.
